AFFILIATE DISCLOSURE
AFFILIATE DISCLOSURE
I am an Amazon Associate and an affiliate for AliExpress.
This means that if you click the affiliate links I provide to those websites and make a qualifying purchase within a certain time period, I may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you.
For Amazon, the time period is 24 hours, and for AliExpress, I have heard conflicting numbers. Some websites say 3 days, and some say 30 days, so honestly, I'm not sure which is correct.
Of course, using these links to make your purchases helps me tremendously and aids me in dedicating the necessary time needed to both maintain this website for your convenience and manage my YouTube channel.
HOW TO MAKE SURE YOUR PURCHASES SUPPORT ME
Note that if you click one of my affiliate links, then click someone else's affiliate link before you make your purchase, your purchase will support them instead of me, even if you make your purchase within the necessary time period.
If you want to ensure that your purchase helps me specifically, you have to either not click anyone else's link before you make your purchase or simply click my link again before completing your order.
TL;DR: Make sure my link is the last link you click before making your purchase.
HOW TO SPOT AFFILIATE LINKS
When someone shares an affiliate link with you, they are supposed to disclose the link as such (at least in America).
There is no one way to do this, but common practices are using hashtags like #ad or #affiliate, or simply saying something like, "Here is an affiliate link."
Amazon also requires that the statement, "As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases," be included.
However, not everyone shares affiliate links in the correct way. I myself had to correct my previous shortcomings in this matter once I took more time to research this subject in more detail.
There is no one look for affiliate links, but for Amazon, if you see a link that begins with "amzn.to," there's a strong chance it's an affiliate link, though that isn't a guarantee.
For AliExpress, usually they'll begin with "s.click.aliexpress."
So, if you see links that look like these, be aware that there's a strong chance they're affiliate links, even if the person hasn't stated that.
This is good to know if you want to be selective with who you do or don't support with your purchases.
There are specific ways to tell whether links are affiliate links, by using things like expander tools to check for tags in the links, etc., but that requires a bit of research.
TL;DR: Many people use affiliate links without disclosing it.
I hope this was helpful. Thank you for your support!
